The Mediterranea ship disembarks 10 migrants in Trapani: "Human beings must not be treated like merchandise."

The Mediterranea ship disembarked ten migrants rescued at sea in Trapani, defying orders from the Interior Ministry to head for Genoa. The NGO justified the decision by explaining that the survivors needed urgent medical care.
"At 8:45 PM yesterday, Mediterranea docked at the port of Trapani, disobeying the Interior Ministry's order to proceed to Genoa for the urgent disembarkation of the ten people we rescued. They are now safe and will be able to receive appropriate medical and psychological care. Despite the Interior Ministry's order assigning Genoa as our port of disembarkation, we have decided to dock in Trapani." Mediterranea Saving Humans wrote on Facebook. "We are aware of the consequences this decision may have in a context where rescue operations are sanctioned and criminalized, while human traffickers and systematic human rights violations go unpunished," Mediterranea continues. "However, we cannot accept a worldview in which human beings are treated like commodities. Resisting this trend means defending our very humanity. And we, as always, have chosen to do so."
